Australian entertainment and media cross media ownership matrix

The 2011 media ownership matrix looks different from the 2010 matrix as a number of significant transactions have occurred in the sector. The largest saw the merger of West Australian Newspapers (WAN) with the Seven Media Group to create Seven West Media. Also, Southern Cross Media Group purchased metro radio operator Austereo from Village Roadshow.

At the time of publication, other merger and acquisition activity is underway in both the subscription television and radio sector. We expect therefore that the 2012 Media ownership matrix will look different again. Interestingly, as consumer consumption of entertainment and media fragments, leaving consumers spread more thinly across a greater number of media choices, the large end of the market consolidates, leaving a more concentrated industry landscape.
